Ice mages and destruction locks bear some similarities in combat style, however, the biggest difference between the two is that ice mages do more damage and have a more diverse set of abilities. Destruction is more effective in PvP than PvE due to searing pain, with Habbo credits, while efficient, generates high threat.
Check my talents on my armory page for a good placement choice. You will notice we got improved void walker in Demonology, which was because my void walker could not hold agro against my dips, and it was getting on my nerves.
If you do not have room to move you will Die, nothing to do about it. So stay or work around those thoughts when you pick a fight or get hit. If you do not get Range, you just do not do Damage witch you know, but you have to get away first, AND keep them away.
