If you are totally new to Anarchy Online, you need to create a character first. You will find official instructions on how to do so in the chapter about character creation in the online manual. Note that you can store eight characters on each game server (or dimension) on your account at the same time, and delete characters to make place for new ones. Don't be afraid about Anarchy credits. After starting the character creation process, the first choice you need to decide on is the choice of a breed. A breed is similar to a 'race' in other games. In lieu of the race-based system that the vast majority of role-playing games employ, Anarchy Online uses genetically engineered breeds. There are four breeds from which you can choose: Solitus, Opifex, Nano, and Atrox. The Solitus, Opifex, and Nano breeds are available in both male and female persuasions, while the huge Atrox only comes in one form: unisex. Each breed has its own strengths and weaknesses, detailed in the table and breed-specific sections.
Next thing to do is to choose your appearance. The Appearance screen does not effect the way a character behaves in the system of the game, and are largely for aesthetic purposes. Each of the different breeds has a different set of faces based on its gender and rolling the mouse over the face arrows will zoom your view into the face of the character. Height and Weight change the model in similar ways for each character. The choice of how your character appears can be important though, since there are very few ways to change it once you have decided in character creation.
